I bought this as a housewarming gift when my granddaughter bought her new Condo. The thermostat is downstairs and her bedroom is upstairs. Now she can control the temp at the touch of a button, anytime and any place, even away from her home. She is so pleased with it.

Amazing thermostat. This NEST Learning Generation 3 thermostat surprises (in a good way) everyday. We are now in week 3 and are still discovering some of its capabilities.We were replacing an 11 year old "dumb" SimpleComfort 2200; dumb but a true workhorse.Installation hiccups:1) The Widget Wiring diagram was incorrect. If we had followed that diagram's layout we would have been without auxiliary heat strips. A quick call to NEST support caught the Widget error. Basically, the correction was to a move wire from the W1 to W2 Auxiliary.CAVEAT: TAKE A PHOTO of your ORIGINAL thermostat wiring!! You wil be glad that you did.2) NEST seems very proud of the fact that it does not need/use jumpers. This is true if your jumper is bridging R to Rh. However, the "no jumper" feature does not include any other jumper settings. In our case we had a jumper bridging W2 to E (Emergency Heat) - see attached photo. Result? We no longer have the Manual Emergency Heat option. While this is disappointing, we could not think of a time when we ever used Manual Emergency Heat. Manual Emergency Heat is not Auxiliary Heat (heat strips). From what we have learned Manual Emergency Heat is a feature most useful in the higher latitudes. We live at the beach in North Carolina so it is not an issue for us.We called NEST support concerning this issue. They researched possible solutions. Unfortunately, the only fix is to run a separate wire from the air handler Manual Emergency Heat connection to the NEST * input. In our case, this is not practical.
First of all, it's so sexy! Beautiful thermostat, super easy to use, and to install if you avoid some of my pitfalls. They even provide you with a screwdriver, labeling stickers and super easy online installation video as well as install booklet!So here are my pitfalls. I turned off the A/C breaker, but not the furnace breaker. Mine wasn't labeled, so I thought they were one and the same. But Nest self diagnoses, so I was able to figure out that my red wire wasn't getting connected properly.Nest has incredible customer service. Online was very easy to use to trouble shoot and when that failed, on the phone (and there wasn't really a wait to get a real person!) the rep was super nice, very helpful, walked me through everything and when that didn't work they paid for a technician to come out and diagnose the issue. I was blown away!To make the story short, when I didn't shut off the furnace breaker, I shorted a fuse in the furnace and nothing I was going to do was going to fix it to get my HVAC going again. The Nest approved technician that came out fixed it in a jiffy and was also pretty awesome.Now I have an awesome working system! Can connect from my phone, net, senses when I am home, learns, and will hopefully save me some $!
